Bruno Bosteels, Professor in the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures will serve as Acting Dean of Humanities

September 01, 2023

Bruno Bosteels, Professor and Chair of the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures, and core faculty of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society, will serve as Acting Dean of Humanities effective September 1st.  A scholar of literature, culture, and politics in modern Latin America as well as contemporary philosophy and political theory, Bruno is a unique leader at Columbia.

As Chair of the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures (LAIC) he has worked tirelessly, creatively, and with intelligence to support the work of faculty, students, and staff in the department.  He also has brought wisdom and energy to the Humanities more broadly, including through numerous initiatives and collaboration across campus.  As the Chairs’ representative to the Policy and Planning Committee, Bruno also has advanced important priorities in the Arts and Sciences and has supported the work of many other key committees, including the Promotion and Tenure Committee.

We are grateful to Bruno for assuming the deanship as Sarah Cole serves as Interim Dean of the School of the Arts.  We look forward to his many contributions to come.
